HOT Zoo Day

Went to the zoo with the entire family.  Had a load of fun walking around, seeing the elephants, taking in the amazing bird show, ice cream, lunch and these glorious fans that sprayed misty cool water.  Really a nice day.  I love our life.  Really, when I look back at all of these pictures, when I see the smiles, and remember things that we did, that we were fortunate to do…I simply cannot help but smile. Cheer to the zoo!

Bird show with daddy.

It's probably hard to tell but standing back in that cage is one HUGE looking old barn owl.

The owl swooped right down over our heads!

Girls jumping and jumping to catch the water!

AWESOME misty fan thing!

Ended the day with a family dinner outside - LOVE me some summer!

Cloud Dough…or something

We made this stuff together once many many years ago.  I don't know why it crossed my mind but it did so we looked up the recipe, hauled down to Reams to buy two bags of flour and two jars of baby oil and made it happen.  It is actually pretty fun stuff to play with.  It's like sand or play dough or some cross between both.  Sticky…yet not.  Anyway, the girls played for like three hours in the shade of Avery's tree with their Pet Shops and Pollys and just had summer fun.  I loved cleaning, doing laundry and just watching them play together….just play and be creative together.

Daddy's Shades

Avery grabbed daddy's sunglasses and made this face - just so Avery.

Really really messy fun!

So….remember all of that rain I've been complaining about.  Like every single day we were in Wisconsin.  Well, it made this huge puddle.  HUGE.  Kids were thrilled to run and play and eventually slip, slide and lay in it.  What a mess - but so many smiles, so much laughter.  My sister and I got in the spirit and grabbed some old webbed lawn chairs, a can of beer and sat along the side of the road to watch.  It felt like there should be some fiddle or banjo music playing in the background :)  But good stuff, the stuff of summer.

Love her flowing hair!

Pretty in a puddle

These two don't mess around when it comes to water.  They LOVE it - they are all about sitting, laying and completely saturating themselves over and over and over again!

A race across the street to see who could lay down in the puddle first.

My girls had their fill at this point so got cleaned up and hugged…for no reason…just hugging.

Cait and her mommy.

This is what a typical Wisconsin evening looks like.  This is what makes me happy too.  To sit in my parents driveway, to have a beer or glass of champagne or whatever and and watch the kids play.  This was our last night.  The sun shone, finally, the kids played.  It was happy.  It was right.

Avery loved the bubbles!

Bubble head?

And this…this here is the tree.  The tree that kids climb constantly.  The little car is always under the tree as a starting point.  A place to climb up and then they climb, play games, something about lava on the ground, or sea monster or something.  But they play and play and play and play.  Love it.
