Just so very tired....

The other night we put the girls to bed in our bed. They love to read books and fall asleep there. We went in to check on them and we found Alexandra like this. Completely propped up like she was just talking to someone and couldn't stay awake any longer. When I showed her these pictures and asked if she remembered this she said that she had been talking to her Jessie doll and must have fallen asleep. SO darling!

Fairy Party

Avery was invited to a little birthday party. She had a great time and decorated these fairy wings. As soon as she got home she put on her Tinkerbell costume and wore her wings. She looks (and is) just so sweet.

Easy Bakin'

We have been busy using the Easy Bake Oven Alexandra received from Santa for Christmas. On this day, we made s'more cookies. They were actually quite good and turned out WAY better than the crumbly cakes we have made in the past. The girls had fun and it was a good indoor project during a long weekend when no one felt too great.

Ugh! Just look at that wig....when will it end? :)

Silly Sisters

I just took this quick snap while we were home using the Easy Bake Oven Alexandra received for Christmas. Avery is sporting her traditional Rapunzel wig and dress (though I will note that usage is finally subsiding). I just love their eyes and their smiles - just having them with me makes my day! Love you ladies!

Avery's First Day of School

Avery started pre-school right after the Christmas break. She was pretty excited though a bit nervous. She choose cinnamon rolls for breakfast and was dressed and ready quickly. Daddy and I gave her a special heart necklace so she knew that we were always with her. Since that first day she has had a couple of days of not wanting to go BUT overall, she has done GREAT! She just heads into her classroom and gets busy with projects, work or helping the teacher. We are wildly proud of you little sweetie!

Christmas Morning

Just a couple of snaps for Christmas morning....Avery with her beloved Rapunzel Tower, the girls with their dollhouse and also playing with their new DSs. Also one shot of the bounty under our tree - we are blessed and lucky and all good things!

Christmas Videos

A few video from Christmas. The first is Alexandra talking to Grandma Groothousen on Christmas Eve morning. The second is a few moments from Christmas Eve with Grandma Georgene and Papa and the final is one of Avery's Christmas Eve dance shows. Enjoy!

a conversation

A couple of weeks ago I listened in on a conversation the girls were having while they were suppose to be sleeping in Avery's bed together. It doesn't make a ton of sense but it illustrates how kids communicate - so random and funny!

avery - what happens when people dye their hair?

alexandra - do you know what some people do? they mix color and water. some people just put some colors and just make colors in water and take half of the pieces of their hair and they kind of dye it like tie-dye. tie-dye is when you tie a shirt and put wrinkles in it.

avery - when people like fashion and they curl their hair it kind of looks different.

alexandra - okay, now we need to go to bed. go to bed mister head.

avery - alexandra stop playing with my curtains ok, guess what? Alexandra stop playing at night time. this is my room and i tell you what to do in my room. NOW stop exercising me.

alexandra - he he he he

avery - stop it alexandra. stop it. and stop fooling me. do you know what fooling means? it means you are fooling someone who does not like it. do you want to see this trick? you roll it like this at the very top and you roll and you roll and you roll and you roll and you roll and ta-da (then lots of giggling-i have no idea what they were doing, maybe rolling up her curtains or a blanket or something)

avery - do you want to see it again you are not looking at it. Rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling. now it's the end - ta da.
(more giggling.) you want to see it again. rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling. okay
it's the end. okay ready. ta da (more giggling) do you want to see it again.

alexandra - okay

avery - rolling rolling rolling rolling rolling - look how big it is alexandra. look how big it is.

alexandra - it's not big, okay yeah it is.

avery - ta da.

alexandra - that's weird

avery - do you want to see it again.

alexandra - what do you think?

avery - well yes.

alexandra - how about saying cha cha cha

avery - maybe i'll say la la la so la la la la la la la la - look how big it is.

avery - (burps) burps stink. do you want to do this again. (Giggling) oh yeah burpy time.

alexandra - I can fake burp
(now they both try to fake burp and end up coughing - i think they are drinking water to try to burp)

alexandra - (burps - followed by tons of giggling)

Christmas Christmas Time is Here!

A few photos from Christmas Eve - our tree, our family and present opening time at Grandma Georgene's & Papa's house. We were even treated to 'the dance of the sugar plum fairy' by our own Avery who received a "princess skirt" as she calls it! Lovely evening with family - simply lovely and blessed beyond belief!

Out with the old, in with the new

Grandma Georgene could no longer stand the look of the raggedy ole' Rapunzel dress and frightful wig.....so she bought Avery a brand new dress and wig. Av was SOSOSO HAPPY!

BEFORE

AFTER

p.s. I always make Avery wear a long sleeved t-shirt under her dress - it just seems so cold without it!

Gingerbread House

A bit of pre-Christmas fun. Family gingerbread assembly. Turned out cute and graced our table and was nibbled on for the better party of three weeks! (Yep, Avery is still in her Rapunzel dress).

Daddy's Gifts

The girls each picked out a pair of pajama pants for daddy for Christmas and they each wrapped them on their own. The whole process took about 40 minutes and used an entire roll of tape. Too bad Avery didn't use some tape to hold her Rapunzel dress up....

Rapunzel Playdate

Avery is in LOVE with the movie Tangled and has wore her Rapunzel dress and long snarly wig everyday since she received them on her birthday - more than 5 weeks ago - you will notice her dress is in disrepair and her wig is a, well, tangled mess. Fortunately, she has a little friend Sophia who loves Rapunzel too so they got together for a twin playdate. They spent several hours playing in our mini-sandbox, playing with princess dolls, the packing peanuts and blowing up and chasing balloons. They were super sweet together and didn't need me for a thing!

Both girls got into a box of packing peanuts - messy but super cute fun!

Ski Season

I am attempting to catch up tonight! We will see how I do!
Here are some photos from mid-December when we went out for our first ski outing. This was Avery's first time on skis and she did GREAT. She kept saying "just let me go" as apparently our holding/helping her was slowing her down. We skied for about an hour and then had hot chocolate and then...everyone crashed on the way down the mountain.
